Greek Cuisine
Ingredients:
- 1 lb (500 g) lean ground beef.
- ½ cup (125 mL) crumbled herb-flavoured
feta cheese.
- ¼ cup (50 mL) chopped kalamata olives.
- 1 tbsp (15 mL) chopped fresh oregano
leaves.
- 2 tsp (10 mL) chopped fresh mint
leaves.
- 4 pita (pocket) breads (6 inch), cut
in half to form pockets.
- ½ medium cucumber, thinly sliced.
- 4 thin slices red onion, cut in half.
- 1 medium tomato, sliced.
- ¼ cup (50 mL) plain yogurt.
Directions:
- Heat gas or charcoal grill.
- In large bowl, mix beef, cheese,
olives, oregano and mint.
- Shape mixture into 4 patties, about ½ inch
thick.
- Place patties on grill over medium
heat.
- Cover grill; cook 10 to 12 minutes,
turning once, until meat thermometer inserted in center of patties reads 160°F.
- Cut burgers in half.
- Fill each pita pocket with burger
half, cucumber, onion and tomato slices; drizzle with yogurt.
