Recent scientific research has found that daily tomato consumption improves sperm quality and increases male fertility by up to 40 percent.
According to the study conducted by researchers at the University of Sheffield in the UK, increased tomato consumption raises the percentage of healthy and fast sperm by 40 percent.
The research, which included participants aged 19 to 32, found that consuming tomato paste daily for three months improved sperm quality and motility.
The researchers attributed this improvement in fertility to the presence of lycopene in tomatoes, a powerful antioxidant that prevents sperm from developing inflammation or abnormalities that affect its quality and speed.
Lycopene also works to prevent the oxidation of LDL (bad) cholesterol, thus preventing artery blockages and facilitating blood flow throughout the body, according to Science Daily, a website specializing in medical news and scientific research.
